About This Opportunity

The Western Zone is currently offering multiple full-time, part-time, and locum positions within various Emergency Departments throughout the western region of Nova Scotia. Notably, Soldiers Memorial Hospital (SMH) is in search of a dedicated Emergency Physician for a full-time role. The selected candidate may also engage in educational activities through the Annapolis Valley site family medicine residency program and/or collaborate with medical students from Dalhousie University.

As the chosen candidate, you will become part of a comprehensive network of Emergency Departments, referral centers, and an integrated air/ground EMS system, all committed to delivering exceptional care to patients facing acute illnesses and injuries in Nova Scotia.

You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team at your Emergency Department location, providing essential leadership in the resuscitation and stabilization of major trauma cases and critically ill patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Additionally, you will be responsible for accurately assessing and managing a wide range of emergency medical situations, from minor to severe injuries, unexpected medical and surgical conditions across all age groups, and mental health crises.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in the resuscitation and stabilization of major trauma patients and critically ill individuals.
  • Accurately assess and manage the complete spectrum of emergency medical presentations, including injuries, unexpected medical and surgical conditions, and mental health emergencies.

Qualifications

  • All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
  • Family physicians must hold membership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
  • Specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is required.
  • All applicants must possess current PALS Certification.
  • All applicants must possess current ATLS Certification.
  • All applicants must possess current ACLS Certification.
