The Western Zone is offering multiple full-time, part-time, and locum opportunities within various Emergency Departments throughout the western region of Nova Scotia. Specifically, Soldiers Memorial Hospital (SMH) is in search of a dedicated Emergency Physician for a full-time role. The chosen candidate may also engage in educational activities through the Annapolis Valley site family medicine residency program and/or collaborate with medical students from Dalhousie University.
As the selected professional, you will become part of a comprehensive network of Emergency Departments, referral centers, and an integrated air/ground EMS system, all committed to delivering exceptional care to patients facing acute illnesses and injuries in Nova Scotia.
You will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team at your designated Emergency Department, providing essential leadership in the resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill patients and those suffering from major trauma. Additionally, you will be responsible for the thorough assessment and management of a wide range of emergency medical situations, including injuries of varying severity, unexpected medical and surgical conditions across all age groups, and mental health crises.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the resuscitation and stabilization efforts for critically ill and major trauma patients.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and manage the full range of emergency medical presentations, from minor injuries to complex medical and surgical conditions, including mental health emergencies.

- All candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
- Family physicians must hold membership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
- Specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is required.
- All applicants must possess current certifications relevant to their practice.
