Job Summary:

Industrial Light & Magic's Jedi Academy is a paid 6-week training program designed for recent graduates or industry artists with up to two years of experience in the VFX field. As a Layout Artist, you will have the opportunity to hone your skills in creative layout, camera matchmove, and body tracking under the guidance of our experienced Jedi Masters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce high-quality entry-level shot work for camera tracking, character matching, and creative camera work.
  • Replicate completed projects' shots to learn about Layout's skills sets.
  • Complete work within the timeframe bid.
  • Strengthen professional habits, including best practices for presenting work in dailies, working as a team, and communicating effectively.
  • Gain knowledge and appreciation of ILM's culture and history.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability in one or more CG techniques relevant to the layout discipline, such as camera tracking, object and character matchanimating, animation, and/or motion capture cleanup.
  • Understanding of photography and the effects of different lenses used in a variety of scenarios.
  • Strong personal work that represents artist skills and interest in VFX.
  • Strong teamwork, excellent communication, and interdisciplinary thinking.
  • Interest in and ability to quickly pick up new software.
  • Entry-level knowledge in some or all of the following software packages: Maya, PFTrack, 3dEqualizer, and Nuke.
  • Knowledge of Linux a plus.
  • Coding/Scripting knowledge (Python, Mel) a plus.

Compensation:

The pay rate for this role in Vancouver is C$25.14 per hour. Select benefits may be provided as part of the compensation package, such as medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
