Job Title: Senior Lifeguard/Instructor

The Town of Hay River is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Lifeguard/Instructor to join our team at the Don Stewart Aquatic Centre. As a Senior Lifeguard/Instructor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our patrons, while also providing high-quality instruction and education in swimming and water safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and oversee swimming programs, ensuring the safety and well-being of patrons
  • Provide high-quality instruction and education in swimming and water safety
  • Conduct water chemistry tests and adjust as required
  • Conduct water sample testing for bacteriology reporting
  • Check filters and backwash as needed
  • Check and change caustic soda barrels
  • Support Aquatics Supervisor in monitoring and maintaining supplies inventory required for swim programs, chemicals, first aid & cleaning
  • Clean and sanitize facilities, including floors, mirrors, counters, sinks, toilets, etc.
  • Inspect facilities daily to ensure safety standards as per NWT Public Pool Regulations
Requirements:
  • Aquatic Emergency Care (Standard First Aid & CPR C)
  • National Lifeguard Certification – Pool
  • Swim Instructor / Examiner
  • WHMIS training, emergency procedures training
  • Lifesaving Instructor / Examiner
  • Fitness Certification / Aqua-fitness Certification would be considered an asset
Working Conditions:

The Senior Lifeguard/Instructor will work in a fast-paced environment, with a high level of physical activity required. The incumbent will be expected to lift, carry and manage equipment and supplies, and may be required to practice lifesaving techniques. The Senior Lifeguard/Instructor will also be required to work in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and humidity.
