Position Overview

We are currently looking for an Electrical Engineer specializing in Distribution Design. This role involves creating electrical utility designs and plans for both overhead and underground distribution system enhancements, upgrades, and new projects. A solid understanding of electrical and civil utility construction standards and design methodologies is crucial for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate, assess, and endorse comprehensive design outputs for Utility Distribution systems, including construction drawings for overhead and underground primary and secondary installations in accordance with regulatory standards and client specifications.
  • Conduct site assessments to confirm scope requirements, evaluate the condition of existing assets, and compile site survey documentation.
  • Prepare and review technical calculations, drawings, bills of materials, and other deliverables, providing necessary technical insights for reports, specifications, proposals, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Engage with third parties, permitting authorities, and clients to ensure alignment of delivery expectations with project scope.
  • Compile calculations, drawings, construction packages, and other project-related deliverables.
  • Review and validate Joint Use applications and authorize HMRs on behalf of utility companies.
  • Assist with additional tasks and responsibilities as dictated by project needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in designing overhead pole lines, underground duct bank installations, and conduit systems, as well as residential subdivision system renewals.
  • Proficient understanding of overhead and underground distribution construction standards, including CSA standards C22-3 no 1-20, C22.3 no 7-2, and relevant regulations.
  • Familiarity with design software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Microstation, SPIDACalc, Pull Planner, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in French is advantageous.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, government entities, and the public.
  • Capability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team, demonstrating flexibility to adapt to urgent project demands.
  • Possession of a valid Ontario G driver's license.
