About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team at GHD. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing electrical systems for various facilities, including power distribution, standby power & generators, motors and drives, and lighting. You will also be responsible for completing condition assessments, preparing detailed design drawing packages, and reviewing electrical design calculations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and Implementation: Design and implement electrical systems for various facilities, including power distribution, standby power & generators, motors and drives, and lighting.
  2. Condition Assessments: Complete condition assessments for various facilities, including report writing and participation in client meetings.
  3. Design Drawing Packages: Prepare detailed design drawing packages for projects of varying scale, including utility interconnection, substation design support, electrical system protection and coordination, and building services.
  4. Electrical Design Calculations: Review and complete electrical design calculations.
  5. Electrical Systems Modeling: Use ETAP, SKM, or Easy Power to model electrical systems.
  6. Interior and Exterior Lighting Systems Modeling: Model interior and exterior lighting systems.
  7. Contract Documentation: Prepare contract documentation, including equipment specifications, cable/conduit schedules, installation specifications, equipment procurement documents, sub-contractor requisitions, scope-of-work, bill-of-materials, and process narratives.
  8. Project Team Leadership: Work as part of and potentially lead the electrical project team throughout project phases, monitoring schedule, quality of deliverables, and budgets.
  9. Tendering and Construction Support: Support during tendering and construction, including responding to RFIs, assisting GHD and client site personnel, reviewing shop drawings, evaluating electrical reports, completing site inspections, preparing testing plans, and participation in project meetings.
  10. Electrical-Specific Meetings: Prepare and lead electrical-specific meetings with clients, presenting design options, system functionality, etc.
  11. Coordination with Other Disciplines: Coordinate electrical system designs with other engineering disciplines, including process, mechanical, civil, structural, vendors, and outside design team members.
  12. Direction to Internal Designers/Drafters: Provide direction to and coordinate with the internal designers/drafters team.
  13. Compliance with Electrical Codes and Standards: Ensure compliance with electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards, and regulations, coordinating and liaising with clients and approving authorities.

Requirements:

  1. Education: Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  2. Registration: Must be a registered member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario and possess a P.Eng license. (Mandatory)
  3. Experience: 5-10 years of experience involved in the design and implementation of electrical systems, including power distribution, standby power & generators, motors and drives, and lighting, as well as a solid understanding of field instrumentation and automated equipment integration. (Mandatory)
  4. Fire Alarm Systems Design Experience: Fire Alarm systems design experience will be considered an asset.
  5. Knowledge of Electrical Codes and Standards: Excellent knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and standards, US codes and standards, and relevant industry standards and regulations.
  6. Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills, demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and continual diligence to follow-up, ability to exercise sound judgment.
  7. Self-Motivation: Self-motivated, with a strong desire to learn.
  8. Organizational Skills: Well organized, able to multi-task and lead multiple projects, strong organizational, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills.
  9. Teamwork: Ability to be a part of multi-functional teams with the ability to relate well and cooperate with other members of the team, to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals.
  10. Driver's License: G class driver's license is considered an asset.
