About the Role

The YMCA of Northern Alberta is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Family Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Family Connect Family Supports program, you will play a vital role in supporting parents and caregivers of children aged 7-18.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit and screen families for participation in our Family Supports program, providing individualized support and advocacy to help them achieve their goals.
  • Work with families to develop and implement strategies to improve parenting skills, create a safe and nurturing environment for their children, and increase caregiver capacity and social connections.
  • Plan and implement programs within YMCA guidelines and contracted performance measures, ensuring effective community relations and program administration.
  • Research and develop relevant program materials, manuals, and tools to meet the needs of our participants.
  • Advocate for families in crisis, assist with problem-solving, and goal planning to increase their confidence in meeting the needs of their children and family.
  • Maintain accurate program administration systems and establish effective community relations relevant to the program.
  • Market and promote programs to achieve programmatic and financial targets.
Requirements
  • University degree in a Human Services field or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience working directly with vulnerable families.
  • Previous experience working with cultural groups, high-needs, and marginalized populations.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license, clear driver's abstract, and access to a vehicle.
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable sector and Child Intervention/Enhanced Security check.
