Family Support Worker

The YMCA of Northern Alberta is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Support Worker to join our team. As a key member of our Family Connect Family Supports program, you will work closely with families to provide support and guidance in creating a safe and nurturing environment for their children.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Recruit and screen families for participation in the Family Supports program, providing individualized support and advocacy as needed.
  • Work with families to develop and implement strategies for improving parenting skills and creating a positive home environment.
  • Plan and implement programs within YMCA guidelines and contracted performance measures, ensuring effective community relations and marketing efforts.
  • Research and develop relevant program materials, manuals, and tools to meet the needs of families and children.
  • Advocate for families in crisis, assisting with problem-solving and goal planning to increase their confidence and ability to meet the needs of their children and family.
  • Maintain accurate program administration systems, ensuring timely and effective communication with stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • University degree in a Human Services field or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience working directly with vulnerable families, with a focus on child and youth development.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations, including cultural groups, high-needs, and marginalized communities.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification, with Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention Certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license, clear driver's abstract, and access to a vehicle.
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector and Child Intervention/Enhanced Security check.
