Position Overview
The Primary Care Nurse plays a vital role in delivering essential healthcare services aligned with the principles of primary healthcare. This position involves providing first-level basic healthcare to individuals, families, and communities, ensuring comprehensive care that emphasizes wellness, disease prevention, health education, chronic disease management, and palliative care.
Key Responsibilities
- Embodying the mission and values of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA).
- Implementing the principles of Primary Health Care as outlined by the World Health Organization.
- Utilizing knowledge from national health guidelines and nursing theories to enhance individual and family health.
- Collaborating with family physicians to provide care to a shared client population.
- Delivering care across the lifespan while considering the client’s environment.
- Promoting wellness and preventing disease through expert nursing practices.
- Managing chronic diseases and conditions within a primary care framework.
- Ensuring client-centered care through an interdisciplinary team approach.
- Facilitating client access to necessary resources and services.
- Maintaining continuity of care with a focus on family-centered nursing.
- Employing a harm reduction and trauma-informed care strategy.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience in primary healthcare or community health nursing.
- Experience in mental health counseling is advantageous.
- Graduation from an accredited Registered Nursing program is required.
- Preferred certification in Diabetes or Asthma Education.
Licensure and Skills
- Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) is mandatory.
- Active involvement in professional nursing associations is preferred.
- Proficiency in computer applications and demonstrated clinical skills are essential.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
- Preference for candidates with knowledge of Indigenous languages and customs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform duties that may include assisting clients with physical and mental challenges.
- Access to reliable transportation for various clinic settings is necessary.
This position requires a satisfactory Criminal Records Check and other background checks as part of the employment conditions.
