Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Technologist is a key member of the Laboratory Services team at Northumberland Hills Hospital. Reporting to the Manager, Laboratory Services and accountable to the Laboratory Medical Director, this role is responsible for all laboratory procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures, including phlebotomy, biochemistry, hematology, bacteriology, and immunohematology.
- Collect and process blood and other specimens for testing, ensuring accurate and timely results.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including automated analyzers and microscopes.
- Conduct quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
- Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with laboratory procedures and technologies.
Requirements
- Current membership in the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work well under pressure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proven good attendance record and ability to maintain this standard.
- Availability to work all shifts, including weekends and relief work.
Assets
- Recent core lab experience in a hospital environment.
- In-depth working knowledge of laboratory accreditation requirements.
Employment Requirements
- Successful applicants must provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, completed within the first sixty (60) days of employment.
- Successful applicants must also complete the Health Care Worker Health review process, including providing an up-to-date immunization record, within the first thirty (30) days of employment.
