Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technologist

Northumberland Hills Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for all laboratory procedures, reporting to the Manager, Laboratory Services and accountable to the Laboratory Medical Director.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform all laboratory procedures, including phlebotomy, biochemistry, hematology, bacteriology, and immunohematology.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating good communication skills, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Prioritize tasks and work well under pressure, with attention to detail and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Be available to work all shifts, including weekends and relief work, and maintain a good attendance record.
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods, responding professionally in high-stress situations.
Requirements:
  • Current membership in the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.
  • Good communication skills, demonstrated tact and diplomacy, ability to cooperate and de-escalate conflict with others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Work and Excel.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to policies and procedures required.
  • Ability to work independently, as a team member, including good time-management skills.
  • Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard.
  • Must be available to work all shifts, including weekends/relief work and vacation.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Responding professionally and appropriately in high-stress and emergency situations.
Assets:
  • Recent core lab experience in a hospital environment.
  • In-depth working knowledge of laboratory accreditation requirements.
Employment Requirements:

Successful applicants are required to provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal reference check, completed less than one year from the date of hire. This requirement must be met within the first sixty (60) days of employment. Additionally, successful applicants are also required to complete the Health Care Worker Health review process, which includes providing an up-to-date immunization record to ensure compliance with the Ontario Hospital Association Communicable Diseases Surveillance Protocols within the first thirty (60) days of employment. Northumberland Hills Hospital operates a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all staff.
