Job Title: Project Engineer Assembly Operations

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our team at the Halifax Port Authority. As a key member of our infrastructure development team, you will be responsible for planning, designing, and supervising construction projects for our minor capital projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, and other documents as required for construction projects
  • Perform necessary field work, including surveys, materials testing, and inspections
  • Coordinate with project managers to ensure timely progress of projects
  • Monitor project costs and schedules, and make recommendations for remedial action as needed
  • Provide direction to consultants during conceptual design and construction phases of projects
  • Ensure quality of materials and work provided by contractors complies with specifications
  • Verify quantities of materials and work invoiced by contractors
  • Prepare cost estimates for capital projects
  • Attend meetings with consultants and contractors to monitor project schedules
  • Respond to technical inquiries from contractors during the tender process
Requirements:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 1-2 years' experience in construction or infrastructure maintenance
  • Certified Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or in progress of obtaining (EIT)
  • High degree of proficiency with SharePoint and Microsoft Office 365
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS (Geographical Information System) is an asset
  • Excellent command of the English language, both oral and written
  • Experience in project estimating, contractual matters, and managing project budgets is an asset
