We are seeking a part-time Emergency Medicine Physician to join our team at St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in research and/or teaching positions with Dalhousie University, as well as, local simulation-based opportunities.
Our hospital is a 90-bed facility with a team of over 60 physicians practicing in various medical specialties and sub-specialties. We serve a population of nearly 40,000 from Antigonish, Guysborough, and surrounding communities.
As an Emergency Physician at our hospital, you will be part of a dynamic team that includes colleagues in anesthesia, family medicine, general surgery, geriatrics, hospitalist, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, palliative care, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, radiology, and visiting oncology and neurology.
Our hospital offers a range of community-based care services, including a men's and women's health centre, chronic pain clinic, methadone clinic, walk-in clinic, and youth clinic at the local high school.
We are committed to providing high-quality care to our patients and value collegiality in the workplace. Our hospital has an active cross-specialty, accredited Continuing Medical Education (CME) program and offers regular medical staff social events.
Responsibilities- Provide full scope of practice as an Emergency Physician, caring for patients within the eastern zone.
- Be responsible to the zone department head for Emergency Medicine for professional responsibilities and quality of practice.
- Operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
- 8-hour shifts available.
- Flexible shifts each month.
- Overlap and single coverage shifts.
- Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
- Eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC); or eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
- ATLS, ACLS, PALS, and advanced Airway training required.

You'll also find a wide range of fitness and sports programs for all ages, often mentored by local university athletes and coaches. Our local St. Francis Xavier University has superb recreational facilities, with a gym, rinks, a track, courts, and a 25-metre pool, all within the town.
St. FX also hosts an impressive lineup of guest speakers, films, arts, music, and theatre events throughout the year, all open to the community. Antigonish boasts a vibrant arts and culture community where theatre, documentary films, concerts, readings, lectures, visual arts, and arts fairs abound.
There is ample opportunity to participate, with community choirs and community theatre productions. This strong creative community has partnered with folks in healthcare and education to create the first community-based arts-health initiative in Canada.
