About the Role

The Abbotsford School District is seeking a highly skilled Communications Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our Operations Management team, you will play a vital role in building confidence in the public education sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of communications strategies to promote public education and the Abbotsford School District.
  • Handle general inquiries and complaints from the public, providing timely and effective responses.
  • Research and write engaging content for our website, social media, and newsletters, highlighting the innovative work of students and staff.
  • Coordinate webpage maintenance, ensuring that new and consistent information is posted regularly.
  • Develop and implement social media and newsletter content, tracking analytics and making data-driven decisions.
  • Assist with public relations special events, including the annual retirement dinner and long-service recognition events.
  • Support the preparation of newsletters, bulletins, annual reports, and other district publications.
  • Monitor online community opinion and attitudes towards public education and the school district, providing insights to senior management.
  • Provide web and social media training for school administrators and clerical staff.
  • Support the preparation of background materials for reports, publications, and presentations.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or university degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field, with 2-5 years of related experience.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional, courteous attitude when dealing with staff, students, and the public.
  • Meticulous attention to accuracy and detail, with the ability to work under pressure and to deadline.
  • Proven ability to compose excellent written material in a variety of formats, with practical knowledge of CMS web management, social media, Office 365, and G-Suite environments.
  • Highly collaborative style, with experience developing and implementing communications strategies.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
