Job Summary:

The Occupational Health and Safety Advisor will be responsible for coordinating and administering OH&S program activities and projects to support business objectives. This includes partnering with local business leaders to ensure compliance and providing day-to-day leadership in building a strong culture of safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure Health & Safety standards are met by coordinating, promoting, and conducting various OH&S programs and activities related to the OH&S Management System.
  • Conduct OH&S assessments and periodic audits, implementing health and safety strategies and action plans, and coaching and advising management on OH&S policies, procedures, practices, and legislative requirements.
  • Continue building a strong safety culture by promoting the philosophy that safety is a value associated with every priority and is non-negotiable.
  • Coordinate training and development programs for the business unit, analyzing and assessing training needs, vendor selection, developing and delivering training presentations, and updating training records.
  • Actively support preventative injury initiatives, focusing on SIFs (Serious Injury or Fatality).
  • Be visible to provide leadership, coaching, teaching, mentoring, and coordinating communications of occupational hazards and risks to both managers and the workforce.
Requirements:
  • University degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and acquired work experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Health and Safety, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Possess a Valid Driver's License (Class G or equivalent).
  • Sound knowledge of OH&S principles, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Sound knowledge of business operating processes and procedures.
  • Sound working knowledge of provincial legislation and regulations (WSIA, OHSA).
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Sound knowledge of the large construction projects.
  • Knowledge of the rail industry is an asset.
