About the Role

Lumentum Canada is seeking a highly skilled Reliability Engineer to join our team in Ottawa. As a key member of our product development team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and durability of our leading-edge optical and photonic telecommunication products meet customer requirements, industry standards, and market expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement product qualification and reliability testing strategies.
  • Define, plan, schedule, and oversee qualification and reliability testing on raw materials, sub-components, and finished products.
  • Predict failure rates and availability for new products, and analyze data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Apply engineering judgment to select appropriate tests, measurement parameters, and acceptance criteria to align with field conditions and target lifetime.
  • Monitor and report on the field reliability of deployed products, comparing predictions with actual results.
  • Perform reliability risk assessments for quality excursions, applying physics of failure, acceleration modeling, experimentation, and other relevant techniques.
  • Work with external labs to coordinate and perform third-party testing, including NEBs, EMI/EMC, Electrical Safety, and LASER Safety.
Requirements
  • Strong interest in understanding how things work, how they fail, and how they can be improved.
  • Able to scrutinize and interpret literature, reports, and data to provide meaningful recommendations.
  • Knowledge of statistics and data analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to operate effectively in a highly technical and multi-project environment.
  • Comfortable discussing issues with higher management and customers.
  • Graduation from a BSc. or MSc. program in electrical engineering, optical engineering, physics, or a related field.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Previous work experience in a reliability, product qualification, failure analysis, design engineering, process engineering, or compliance function.
  • Knowledge of electronics, optics, and optical communication systems.
  • Knowledge of electronic and optical manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of electrical and optical components, including ICs, FPGAs, Interconnects, LASERs, Optical Detectors, Switches, WSS, MEMs, LCOS, etc.
  • Familiarity with optical and electrical measurement equipment.
  • Knowledge of IEC, JEDEC, and Telcordia Qualification Standards.
  • ASQ CRE, Six Sigma certification.
  • Knowledge of Weibull++, BlockSim, Jump, and other relevant software tools.
