Hospital Midwife Specialist

Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a skilled and experienced Hospital Midwife to join our team at the Women's Reproductive Health and Newborn Care Program at WLMH. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide full scope midwifery care to women and newborns throughout the continuum in a family-centered environment.
Responsibilities:- Deliver high-quality midwifery care to low-risk obstetrical and newborn patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
- Communicate effectively with the interprofessional team to execute the best plan of care for each client.
- Provide backup, support, and relief to community midwives and obstetricians.
- Participate in pandemic planning, handover, and daily huddles to ensure seamless care delivery.
- Conduct well-baby assessments, communicate with community midwives and consultants, and support learners.
- Review outcomes, teach, mentor, and provide support to the midwifery, obstetrical, and nursing team.
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Midwives of Ontario.
- Postgraduate certificate in surgical first assist for caesarean birth completed or in progress.
- Active credentials at Hamilton Health Sciences.
- Relevant clinical experience, including clinical teaching and commitment to assisting low-risk patients on labour and delivery and postpartum units.
- Excellent physical assessment skills, familiarity with professional and hospital standards, guidelines, and procedures.
- Demonstrated commitment to a woman-friendly/family-centered care environment.
- Ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team and independently to support the needs of the Maternal Newborn unit.
- Proficient computer and writing skills, excellent communication, interpersonal, and teaching skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and enhanced clinical management skills.
- Experience in leading organization and team change, evidence of ongoing professional development, continuing education, and leadership experience.
- Demonstrated excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills, good attendance record with the ability to maintain this standard.
