Position Overview:
The primary objective of the Operations Oversight Supervisor is to oversee train functionality and to detect any potential mechanical concerns that may hinder timely operations. This encompasses monitoring equipment in non-revenue status at various facilities using all available health assessment systems. The ultimate aim is to facilitate repairs before service commences, ensuring that both the transit system and its passengers remain unaware of any underlying issues. In the event of a service interruption, a swift recovery strategy is implemented to mobilize the necessary workforce and technicians to rectify or isolate the issue, thereby maintaining service continuity. Continuous monitoring will be conducted to confirm that repairs are executed at the designated layover locations. The Operations Oversight Supervisor will collaborate closely with the Control Supervisor to keep them informed about the status of the equipment, enabling informed decision-making regarding any necessary schedule adjustments.
- Utilizing all available resources, including monitoring systems and communication with train crews and operational control centers, to assess the health of locomotives, coaches, and train services.
- Proactively reduce in-service failures by identifying potential equipment issues prior to dispatch and coordinating repairs with all technical resources at hand.
- During service disruptions, the Operations Oversight Supervisor will: provide troubleshooting guidance to crews, inform the Control Supervisor of the need to activate response teams, and relay equipment conditions to facilitate timely communication with operational control centers regarding potential schedule modifications.
- Maintain a comprehensive log of incidents and prepare detailed reports on train recovery efforts and successful interventions that prevented revenue service disruptions.
- Stay informed about operational instructions and notices relevant to crew management.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of Grade 12 education required.
- Completion of an apprenticeship is considered an asset.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in the railway sector.
- Proficient computer skills are essential.
- Strong understanding of railway equipment, including locomotives and coaches.
- Effective communication skills across various platforms (in-person, phone, email, or radio) to relay repair instructions to train crews and maintenance personnel.
