Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Academic Leader in Indigenous Studies to join our team at the University of Ottawa. As an Assistant Professor in Indigenous Knowledge, you will be responsible for teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising graduate students, and conducting research in the field of Indigenous Studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in Indigenous Studies, including undergraduate and graduate-level courses
  • Supervise graduate students in their research projects
  • Conduct research in Indigenous Studies, with a focus on contemporary Indigenous issues
  • Develop and implement curriculum in Indigenous Studies
  • Participate in departmental and faculty-wide initiatives related to Indigenous Studies
Requirements
  • PhD in Indigenous Studies, Gender and Women's Studies, or a related field
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Indigenous resistance and/or resurgence; two-spirit and queer studies; decolonial and anti-colonial critiques; and/or transnational perspectives
  • Demonstration of an established and innovative research program, or one that demonstrates potential for excellence through a record of refereed publications or other forms of knowledge mobilization
  • The ability, or potential, to raise external funds and/or to develop co-creative projects with non-academic communities, organizations or other stakeholders
  • Preference will be given to applicants whose research and teaching praxes reflect an existing and ongoing relationship to legally recognized and inherent Indigenous nations, communities and/or organizations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingualism (French-English)
  • Experience in teaching and researching Indigenous education in partnership with Indigenous communities
