Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Cardiac Services team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our interprofessional care team, you will provide direct patient care to patients undergoing cardiac procedures and provide education to patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patients and collect information from various sources to develop a comprehensive care plan.
  • Collaborate with patients and their families to develop and implement a care plan that meets their unique needs.
  • Provide direct patient care, including patient preparation, recovery, and discharge.
  • Participate in the care and discharge planning process for patients on admission.
  • Coordinate nursing care for patients, set priorities, and delegate tasks to support staff.
  • Collaborate with members of the interprofessional care team to identify and resolve issues and adjust care plans as needed.
  • Teach patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance.
  • Assess learning needs of patients and families and provide information and demonstration of care activities to support self-care and the discharge plan.
  • Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of Cardiology component of Post Basic Critical Care course, or post basic High Acuity Course, approved Arrhythmia interpretation course plus one (1) year's recent experience in cardiac monitoring or telemetry unit, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current Basic Rescuer Certificate.
Skills and Abilities
  • Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area.
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/care givers, the public, medical staff and members of the interprofessional care team using verbal, written and electronic communication means.
  • Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/care givers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and patient advocacy.
  • Ability to integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem-solve effectively.
  • Ability to teach and instruct patients and families/care givers about topics essential to their health care and well-being.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Ability to use factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence/evidence-informed practice.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
