About GFL Environmental

GFL Environmental is a leading waste management company seeking a skilled Fleet Supervisor to oversee the maintenance and repair of our commercial diesel and alternative fuel trucks, as well as heavy equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily planning and scheduling of all repair work to optimize productivity and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Review and approve expenses related to equipment maintenance and repairs, ensuring they are within budget and align with company policies.
  • Assist with inventory control to ensure necessary equipment and parts are maintained and purchased within budget.
  • Complete required record keeping associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
  • Mentor and train apprentice technicians to complete their apprenticeship program and develop their skills.
  • Conduct daily shop huddles and fleet walks to ensure the maintenance shop is operating efficiently and safely.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the maintenance shops through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Journeyman/Red Seal certification is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in leading a team is desirable but not required.
  • One (1) or more years of lead technician or supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on commercial vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to follow schedules, instructions, technical manuals, and maintenance guidelines.
  • Experience using diagnostic software is preferred. Must be computer literate and willing and able to be trained in software systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization and communicate with customers and external vendors.
  • Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a team environment or as an individual contributor.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Working Conditions

The Fleet Supervisor must be able to work inside and/or outside in all different weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat.

Physical Demands

Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping/gripping, and pushing/pulling.
  • Work utilizing personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety-toed boot, utility gloves, reflective vest, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, etc.
  • Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts. Exposure to dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
  • Physically able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
