Join the City of Calgary in a pivotal role dedicated to public service and community safety. We are seeking a Business Continuity and Emergency Management Planner who is passionate about collaboration and committed to professional growth.
The City of Calgary values work-life balance and promotes a safe, inclusive, and equitable workplace. We encourage applications from individuals who represent diverse backgrounds and experiences, particularly those from historically underrepresented groups. Accommodations are available throughout the hiring process upon request.
As a BC&EM Planner, you will be instrumental in preparing Fleet & Inventory to effectively respond to emergencies and business interruptions. Your efforts will contribute to ensuring public safety, safeguarding property and the environment, and maintaining service reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and anticipate the needs of the BC&EM program, delivering services that meet or exceed expectations.
- Develop, review, and update emergency and business continuity plans and procedures.
- Design and conduct training sessions on business continuity and emergency management for various stakeholders.
- Lead orientations, drills, and exercises, including After Action Reviews and incident debriefs.
- Coordinate projects and meetings with both internal and external partners.
- Support incident response efforts at the business unit level and within the City of Calgary Emergency Operations Centre.
- Collaborate with other business units as necessary.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Business Continuity, Emergency Management, or a related field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
- A completed 2-year diploma with at least 8 years of related experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Proficiency in business continuity and emergency management principles, as well as familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
- Experience in developing and implementing emergency management and business continuity strategies is essential.
- Skills in training design, group facilitation, and project management are advantageous.
- Certifications such as Incident Command System (ICS) training, Business Continuity Planning certification, or Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation are considered assets.
- The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and exceptional communication skills, thriving in dynamic and potentially high-pressure environments.
Working Conditions: This role may require participation in an on-call rotation for 24/7 coverage approximately every two months. In the event of an emergency, non-standard hours may be necessary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the situation. While a partial hybrid/telework option is available, candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the Calgary office.
