Job Summary

The Scrap Yard Manager is a critical role at Dass Steel Service Center, responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our scrap yard or outdoor facility. This position involves coordinating the movement, storage, and logistics of goods, ensuring smooth and efficient handling of materials and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Management: Coordinate the movement, storage, and logistics of goods, ensuring timely execution of projects and operations.
  • Safety Protocols: Implement and maintain safety protocols to protect personnel and assets, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Leadership and Communication: Liaise with various departments, from procurement to dispatch, to optimize the flow of operations and meet organizational objectives.
  • Scrap Production: Manage, direct, and coordinate scrap production to achieve production output and profit objectives consistent with quality customer service and safety and corporate goals.
  • Employee Relations: Ensure that Company policies relating to all employees are being implemented on a fair and consistent basis and that good employee relation practices are being maintained.
  • Cost Management: Analyze all cost, financial, and operating reports to ensure that department objectives are being met.
  • Performance Management: Review the performance and results of the staff under responsibility area to ensure efficient and accurate functioning of these areas.
Requirements
  • Industry Knowledge: Possess a broad knowledge of the metals recycling industry.
  • Health and Safety: Be familiar with health and safety management, accounting, industrial relations, and management procedures and techniques.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years related work experience including significant exposure to scrap processing.
  • Supervisory Experience: Supervisory experience is required.
  • Education: Possess a post-secondary education in Business Administration or related area.
Working Conditions

This position involves a high level of interaction, not only with on-site team members but also with drivers and possibly clients, emphasizing the importance of clear communication skills. Work hours may extend beyond the typical nine-to-five, including early starts or late finishes to align with shipment schedules.
