Job Summary

The Personal Support Worker will provide high-quality care to residents in a long-term care facility, ensuring their emotional, social, cultural, spiritual, and physical needs are met. This role requires a strong commitment to resident safety and a focus on delivering exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care to residents in accordance with established standards and recognized nursing principles.
  • Encourage and assist residents with transportation to support participation in activities promoting their physical, social, and emotional well-being.
  • Observe, report, and document changes in residents' physical and emotional conditions to registered staff.
  • Provide individual attention to residents' needs as directed by registered staff and in accordance with their plan of care.
  • Contribute to residents' plans of care and participate in high-risk rounds and care conferences as required.
  • Communicate professionally in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for assigned roles in accordance with the facility's Fire Plan.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff members.
  • Participate in learning opportunities and meetings as required.
  • Effectively utilize electronic systems provided.
  • Accountable for completing assigned documentation.
  • Provide customer service at all times.
  • Deliver care in accordance with the Fundamental Principles and Residents' Rights.
  • Participate in and demonstrate an understanding of resident safety principles and practices in all daily activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act, and their regulations, in performing duties in a safe manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

Requirements

  • Completion of, or currently enrolled in, the Personal Support Worker Certification program as per the requirements of the Long Term Care Homes Act and Regulations.
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.
  • Documented results of TB testing, as per Public Health requirements.
  • Previous work experience with seniors or in a long-term care facility.

Working Conditions

  • This position is located in a long-term care facility, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.
  • Work schedule to be determined; shifts will include days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Compensation

As per the collective agreement or non-union job band.
