Position Overview

The Utility Operator plays a crucial role in the effective operation and upkeep of ash handling and metal recovery systems within the Residue Storage and Processing Building (RSPB). This position involves conducting routine operations and inspections of the ash and metal recovery equipment, alongside performing essential housekeeping tasks. Responsibilities include maintaining and cleaning all systems related to ash removal and conditioning, magnets, non-ferrous recovery, conveyors, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in boiler cleaning activities.
  • Complete necessary training for Utility Operators within designated timelines.
  • Acquire qualifications as an Equipment Operator.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and assist with routine maintenance as needed.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.

Position Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, technical procedures, and operating instructions.
  • Proficient in logging onto a computer and completing online training assignments.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular exposure to high temperatures and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Work in proximity to moving machinery and in noisy, dusty environments; must be capable of wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Climb ladders and structures; must be comfortable with heights.
  • Frequently required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach.
