FortisBC is seeking a highly skilled Distribution Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our Gas Operations department, you will play a critical role in the construction, maintenance, and operation of our Gas Distribution system.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the installation of distribution pipes, fittings, and related components
- Carry out repairs and alterations to existing mains and services
- Learn welding and pipefitting skills
- Develop safety, customer service, and software application skills
- Participate in classroom and on-the-job training to prepare for advancement
- High school/Grade 12 graduation/GED
- Valid BC driver's license with safe driving record
- Underground utilities experience (gas, water, sewer) is an asset
- Mechanical aptitude
- Demonstrated safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations and practices
- Initiative and sense of responsibility
- Ability to become proficient in the use of power-operated and hand tools, equipment, and instruments
- Ability to learn simple pipefitting, small meter setting, and residential appliance relight setting
- General good health, adequate physical strength, and agility
- Ability to meet the public as a representative of FortisBC
- Considerable walking, bending, and lifting
- Exposure to all weather conditions
- Experience operating rubber tire backhoe and/or excavating equipment in shallow construction is considered an asset
- Current Gasfitter qualifications (B ticket or higher) are considered an asset
- Welding experience/credentials are considered an asset
- Out of town training and work may be required
- This role has on-call requirements based on operational needs
- This role has overtime requirements based on operational needs
This position has an automatic wage progression:
- After 12 months of continuous service: $36.04
- After 24 months of continuous service: $40.05
This position will require pre-employment assessments including:
- Drivers Abstract review
- Criminal record check
- Drug and physical assessments
