Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Equipment Operator/Distribution Assistant to join our team at FortisBC. As a key member of our Gas Distribution team, you will be responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, and operation of our Gas Distribution system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation of distribution pipes, fittings, and related components
  • Carry out repairs and alterations to existing mains or services
  • Operate rubber tire back-hoe and/or excavating equipment
  • Learn welding and pipefitting skills
  • Be trained in safety, customer service, and software applications

Requirements

  • High school/Grade 12 graduation/GED
  • Hold a current Class 3 Driver's License with a safe driving record
  • Underground utilities experience (gas, water, sewer) is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to proficiently operate a backhoe around underground utilities
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Demonstrated safe work habits and adherence to safety regulations and practices on a sustained basis
  • Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Initiative and sense of responsibility

Additional Information

  • Considerable walking, bending, and lifting
  • Exposure to all weather conditions
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience operating rubber tire backhoe and/or excavating equipment in shallow construction
