Special Education Teacher and Grade 7/8 Educator

Matawa Education is seeking a dedicated and experienced educator to fill the positions of Special Education Teacher and Grade 7/8 Teacher at our Nibinamik Education Centre. Our centre is a multi-grade school serving students from JK to 8, with an enrollment of approximately 80 students.

The Nibinamik First Nation is a remote fly-in community located in Northern Ontario, with a population of around 370 people. As an educator in this community, you will have the opportunity to work in a unique and culturally rich environment.

Requirements:

  • A current Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification and good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A desire to live and work in a small, isolated fly-in community
  • Experience working in the North is considered an asset
  • Awareness and appreciation of Indigenous culture
  • Special Education, Part 1 or more

Responsibilities:

  • Teach Special Education and Grade 7/8 students
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet the needs of students
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Collaborate with other educators and support staff to provide a comprehensive education
