Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Management
- Provide strategic leadership to the maternity service, promoting a positive culture and ensuring equality, diversity, and inclusion for all staff and service users.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to implement the clinical strategy, midwifery workforce modelling, and effective human resource implementations.
- Hold responsibility for the daily operational management of the maternity service, ensuring compliance with Trust and National policies, guidelines, and legislation.
- Clinical Leadership
- Actively participate in the delivery of the perinatal clinical strategy, working closely with the Director of Midwifery, Divisional Director, General Manager, and other key stakeholders.
- Contribute to the midwifery profession through proactive involvement in local, regional, and national forums, promoting excellence and innovation in midwifery practice.
- Drive improvements to quality and safety of services, ensuring compliance with Trust and National policies, guidelines, and legislation.
- Role model positive leadership behaviours, fostering a just culture where staff are trusted and empowered to initiate quality improvement initiatives.
- Support the Director of Midwifery and Divisional Director in developing the workforce plan for maternity services, aligning services to the needs of service users.
- Operational Management
- Oversee the daily operations of the maternity service, ensuring that all aspects of patient care are delivered to the highest standard.
- Manage and develop a team of midwives and other healthcare professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge needed to deliver high-quality care.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that the maternity service is running efficiently and effectively.
- A Postgraduate management qualification or substantial relevant experience at senior level.
- Extensive senior clinical and management experience, with a broad and highly developed understanding of nursing and midwifery policy.
- Detailed knowledge of NHS practices, policies, and procedures, with experience of implementing new policies across multiple service areas.
- Experience of successfully managing multiple services in a complex organisation, including people and budgetary management.
- Ability to demonstrate emotional intelligence, insight, and impact of leadership style, with high-level work organisation and self-motivation.
- Generous annual leave entitlement, starting at 27 days and increasing to 29 days after five years of service and 33 days after 10 years of service.
