Pediatric Emergency Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Services

As a dedicated RN, you view nursing as a vocation rather than merely a profession, thriving in dynamic environments that present new challenges daily. Your passion lies in positively impacting the lives of children, establishing connections with young patients and their families with empathy, assurance, and swiftness. You are committed to continuous learning, both through practical experience and ongoing educational opportunities. Embrace the unpredictable nature of this role, and gain profound connections, invaluable insights, and immense gratitude from those you serve.

Key Responsibilities

RNs play a crucial role within the Pediatric Emergency Department, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. In this setting, the RN is accountable for the care of pediatric patients, including executing emergency interventions for resuscitation and stabilization, as well as trauma nursing for children. The department adopts a Family-Centered Care philosophy, catering to pediatric and adolescent patients and their families. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, including diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of actual and potential health issues in patients.
  • Execute triage and prioritize patient care utilizing advanced pediatric assessment techniques in accordance with established standards.
  • Maintain precise, comprehensive, and timely documentation of relevant health information, nursing assessments, interventions, evaluations, and communications in patient records.
  • Deliver education to patients and families, including discharge instructions and health promotion initiatives. Ensure appropriate follow-up care within the broader healthcare community.
  • Provide nursing care to diverse patient populations in crisis situations, including cases of abuse, psychiatric emergencies, and substance-related issues.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program with current registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • At least one (1) year of recent, relevant clinical experience in pediatrics or an Emergency Department.
  • Certification in Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is preferred.

Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively engage with children and their families.
  • Collaborate as an integral member of a multidisciplinary care team, serving as a nursing resource.
  • Commitment to understanding and integrating the principles of the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action and related reports.
  • Dedication to fostering meaningful reconciliation in healthcare practices.
  • Awareness of the social, economic, and historical factors affecting Indigenous communities, along with familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism initiatives.
