Position Overview

The Cloud Solutions Architect will play a crucial role in analyzing, designing, configuring, and supporting Aecon's system solutions aimed at enhancing business efficiency and productivity, while aligning with our strategic objectives. You will assess service incidents and challenges, identify risks, offer recommendations, and implement effective solutions. Your role will also involve collaborating as a project team member on large-scale, complex initiatives that may span the enterprise, necessitating exceptional communication and teamwork skills.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning

Plan, recommend, and implement capacity, growth, and architectural modifications for Aecon's software, network, database, and application ecosystem. Engage in various stages of the software development lifecycle for AWS solutions, including planning, requirements gathering, development, testing, and quality assurance.

System Enhancements

Lead technical initiatives to enhance, design, build, and deploy AWS applications, encompassing small, medium, and large-scale cloud infrastructure projects, while adhering to the company's security and compliance protocols.

Quality Assurance

Review test plans and oversee the testing process to ensure that business outcomes are thoroughly evaluated with minimal risk. May develop system test cases and validate results during testing. Analyze testing outcomes to confirm that the solution meets business requirements. Facilitate the resolution of issues.

Documentation

Document system modifications. Create system manuals.

Problem Resolution

Exhibit outstanding problem-solving abilities, with a knack for identifying and addressing issues before they impact business productivity. Business Case Development Provide input on expenditures based on the size, scope, and cost of hardware components.

Research and Technical Assessment

Participate in the evaluation, selection, and application of new and emerging cloud tools and methodologies. Analyze technology trends to assess their impact on achieving business objectives. Identify challenges and offer recommendations based on the implications of new or emerging technologies or modifications to existing systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or equivalent professional experience. Typically requires 5-7 years of relevant technical experience. Requires strong analytical, technical, interpersonal, and communication skills. In-depth knowledge of business operations, systems requirements, configurations, and IT processes and technologies. AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification or higher.

Technical Proficiencies

Comprehensive understanding of cloud computing platforms and services. Familiarity with the five pillars of a well-architected framework. Experience with DevOps practices and tools, including continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, etc.). Proficiency in programming languages and scripting tools. Strong knowledge and experience with Windows Server/Linux environments. Understanding of data storage and database technologies, including SQL and NoSQL. Possession of industry-recognized cloud engineering certifications. Solid understanding of the ITIL framework and best practices.
