Position Responsibilities

The Registered Dietitian is responsible for ensuring that the nutritional care provided aligns with the current standards set by the College of Dietitians Ontario and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC). This includes assessing, monitoring, and evaluating the nutritional status of residents and developing tailored nutritional care plans based on individual needs.

The role reports to the Manager of Food & Nutrition Services and encompasses the following responsibilities:

  • Conducts assessments and documents the nutritional status of each new resident in accordance with MOHLTC standards and regulations.
  • Monitors and evaluates the nutritional status of residents, identifying current nutritional risks and prioritizing as necessary; documents these evaluations as per MOHLTC standards.
  • Develops individualized nutritional care plans for each resident, incorporating long-term goals.
  • Collaborates as a clinical expert within the healthcare team, addressing medical and biochemical aspects of health and nutrition.
  • Provides consultation and counseling to residents and/or their families regarding specific nutritional requirements.
  • Advises the Manager of Food & Nutrition Services and the multidisciplinary team to fulfill the nutritional needs of residents, including regular menu evaluations and approvals.
  • Guides Pioneer Ridge Administration on nutrition and food service policies that reflect contemporary standards of practice.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Degree in human nutrition and dietetics.
  • Minimum of three years of therapeutic experience in a long-term care setting.
  • Current registration as a Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the nutritional and dietary needs of the elderly population is essential.
