Main Purpose and Function

The Compliance and Training Agent plays a critical role in ensuring the City of Vancouver's Engineering Services department meets regulatory compliance and safety standards. Reporting to the Street Operations Superintendent II, this position is responsible for monitoring compliance, providing safety and best practice consultation services, and investigating safety concerns and incidents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies such as WorkSafe BC, the National Safety Code, and the BC Motor Vehicle Act.
  • Advise and consult with management on best practices and compliance requirements, developing procedures and processes to document best practices and compliance.
  • Conduct comprehensive onsite risk assessments and safety studies, writing evaluative reports and recommending measures to mitigate occupational health and safety risk.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to staff in mentorship roles, conducting monthly site inspections and attending crew talks as required.
  • Investigate safety incidents and concerns, documenting events and providing management with recommendations on change procedures and practice.
  • Prepare and deliver safety and operational training programs, auditing operations for compliance and maintaining audit records.
  • Manage safety-related equipment and maintain a workplace accident database and related records.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a recognized certificate/diploma program in occupational health and safety and sound related experience in construction safety, heavy equipment operations, or civil construction industry. They will also possess thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, principles, and practices, as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills.
