We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Counsellor to join our team at Broadview Village, a local expression of The Salvation Army in Canada. As a Residential Counsellor, you will play a vital role in providing support and care to adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement individualized support plans to promote personal growth and independence.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to residents, while also advocating for their rights and interests.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive care and support.
- Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies for success.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of resident progress and activities.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with a high level of autonomy.
- Interact with residents, colleagues, and external partners on a regular basis.
- Be prepared to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
- Be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds, and apply effective body mechanics to meet the physical demands of the position.
- Completed 2-3 year Developmental Services Worker Diploma or equivalent degree/diploma related to human services.
- Valid and current Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C Certificate.
- Ability to achieve Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate upon hire.
- Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and a current copy of a Driver's abstract.
- Minimum 2-5 years' experience working with people with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.
- Experience with writing, implementing, and updating Individual Support Planning.
- Medication administration experience preferred.
- Strong counselling and de-escalation support skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
