The Opportunity:

The City of Airdrie is in search of a Community Peace Officer to enhance our Municipal Enforcement division.

This role entails consistent engagement with the community through patrols, traffic regulation, addressing citizen inquiries, and investigating complaints related to local bylaws and regulations.

This position aims to foster public understanding and education within the community, utilizing sound judgment and expertise to promote voluntary adherence to the City's bylaws through educational initiatives prior to enforcement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold provincial laws and municipal regulations
  • Examine complaints and conduct patrols across the City
  • Implement animal control and traffic regulations
  • Safeguard public welfare
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to community members
  • Appear and provide testimony in Provincial Court as necessary


Qualifications:


  • Applicants must fulfill the Community Peace Officer Level 1 appointment criteria
  • Diploma/Certificate in law enforcement and/or a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • 3 years of experience in a customer service/enforcement role
  • Valid Class 5 Operator's License (Driver's Abstract will be required)
  • Standard First Aid - Level C CPR and AED (or willingness to obtain within 3 months of employment)
  • At the time of application, candidates must meet the provincial standard on at least one of the following: Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE), Correctional Officer Physical Aptitude Test (COPAT), Police Officer Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT) or Alberta Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (APREP)
  • Must be comfortable working with animals
  • Ability to positively influence individuals and situations
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Exceptional interpersonal and conflict resolution abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Excellent file management and report writing capabilities with a focus on detail and accuracy
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and exercise sound judgment
  • High level of confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy

Additional Information:

This position is both psychologically and physically demanding, requiring direct interaction with domestic animals. Applicants must be physically capable of fulfilling the duties of the role in all weather conditions.
