Job Title: Analyst 1

Reporting To: Laboratory Supervisor / Laboratory Manager

Department: Food Microbiology Laboratory

Compensation: $24.40 per hour

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct microbiological evaluations utilizing various laboratory methodologies.
  • Prepare samples for advanced analytical testing processes.
  • Assist in supervising junior personnel as needed.

Key Duties:

  • Adhere to Bureau Veritas' Code of Ethics.
  • Execute both basic and advanced microbiological analyses in compliance with Microbiology Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Health and Safety regulations.
  • Ensure quality and turnaround time standards are met for client requirements.
  • Utilize appropriate laboratory techniques to reduce the risk of sample mislabeling and contamination.
  • Prepare and analyze samples for a variety of food and water microbiology tests, including those requiring confirmation methods.
  • Analyze samples within specified holding times and turnaround times; proactively communicate potential issues to senior staff.
  • Document and interpret results for all microbiological tests.
  • Perform data entry and validation in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
  • Support the maintenance of the Quality Control program.
  • Coordinate Quality Control activities such as calibrations and proficiency tests.
  • Conduct method validations and maintain adequate supplies of laboratory materials.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior staff.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a microbiology laboratory.
  • Dynamic, motivated, and positive with a proactive attitude.
  • Basic computer skills are essential.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Able to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Exhibit strong leadership qualities.
  • Familiarity with LIMS is advantageous.

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced laboratory setting with high productivity demands.
  • Requires flexibility in working hours, including potential overtime and weekend shifts.
  • Involves prolonged periods of standing and handling hazardous materials with appropriate safety measures.
  • Some lifting and carrying may be necessary.
