Job Title: Analyst 1
Reporting to: Laboratory Supervisor / Laboratory Manager
Department: Food Microbiology Laboratory
Salary Range: $24.40 hourly
Role Overview:
The Analyst 1 will conduct microbiological assessments utilizing various laboratory methodologies. This role includes preparing samples for advanced analytical testing and providing guidance to junior personnel as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold Bureau Veritas' Code of Ethics.
- Execute both basic and advanced microbiological analyses in compliance with the Microbiology Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Health and Safety regulations, including biohazard protocols.
- Achieve quality and turnaround time standards as mandated by clients.
- Apply proper laboratory techniques to reduce the risk of sample mislabeling, mix-ups, and cross-contamination.
- Prepare and evaluate samples for a range of microbiological tests, including those requiring confirmation techniques.
- Ensure timely analysis of samples within regulatory and client-defined holding times; proactively communicate potential issues to senior staff.
- Record and interpret results for all microbiological tests, including those needing confirmation.
- Perform data entry, approve worksheets, and validate results in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory, identifying and resolving sample processing and methodology challenges.
- Support the maintenance of the Quality Control (QC) program.
- Coordinate QC activities such as calibrations and proficiency tests.
- Conduct and document method validations.
- Monitor and maintain adequate supplies of media and chemicals.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior staff.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education with a minimum of 2 years' experience in a microbiology laboratory.
- Energetic, motivated, and positive attitude with a strong work ethic.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Good leadership capabilities.
- Familiarity with LIMS is advantageous.
Working Environment:
- Fast-paced laboratory setting with high production demands and shifting priorities.
- Flexibility in working hours, including potential overtime and weekend shifts.
- Requires prolonged periods of standing.
- Adherence to safety protocols when handling hazardous materials.
- Some lifting and carrying may be necessary.
