Position Overview:

The Oncology Nurse is tasked with delivering holistic cancer care to patients throughout their oncology journey. This includes assessment, intervention, treatment administration, care coordination, and follow-up in an outpatient setting. The role involves engaging in patient and family education, conducting essential nursing assessments, collaborating with a multidisciplinary care team, and implementing suitable interventions. Nursing staff regularly handle cytotoxic and hazardous medications, with personal protective equipment (PPE) and training provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive cancer care to patients.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and collaborate with the healthcare team.
  • Administer treatments and coordinate care effectively.
  • Educate patients and families about their care and treatment options.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM) or eligibility within 6 weeks.
  • Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) as per applicable policies.
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics and the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
  • Proficient in computer applications, including MS Windows, Word, and Outlook.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Nursing degree.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in medical/surgical or ambulatory care settings.
  • Knowledge and experience in oncology care.
  • Experience with electronic health records.
  • Ability to communicate in French.

Assets:

  • Certification as a Certified Oncology Nurse (CON(C)).
  • Experience in wound care and radiation therapy.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and leadership.
