Role Summary

We are in search of a seasoned DB2 LUW Database Administrator. Our DB2 systems are predominantly hosted on AIX, with a minor presence on Linux. You will be responsible for overseeing a total of 55 DB2 instances, primarily supporting Enterprise Document systems.

The ideal candidate will work in a hybrid setting (2 days in the office) within a compact DB2 team, integrated into a larger DBA group that manages various database management systems, including Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres, and MongoDB.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, design, and maintain DB2 database system software while implementing robust database security measures.
  • Monitor and evaluate database performance to ensure optimal utilization of systems and processes.
  • Maintain essential DB2 support tools.
  • Develop and uphold comprehensive system documentation.
  • Contribute to the strategic, architectural, and tactical planning for database systems.
  • Stay informed about future system directions and their implications for the organization, leveraging current and future database systems for maximum benefit.
  • Provide technical leadership in DB2 database systems and solutions.
  • Offer individual mentoring and training on database technologies and tools.
  • Assess, test, and recommend new technologies and software tools.
  • Implement and advocate for improvements in database operations.
  • Establish and maintain a Business Continuity solution for the DB2 environment, including software installation and replication processes.
  • Create and sustain high-value scripts to automate database administration tasks, such as installations and security patch deployments, primarily using KSH (Korn shell).
  • Share on-call responsibilities in a 24/7 operational environment.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of IT experience.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience working with DB2 LUW.
  • Proficiency in AIX/Linux environments.
  • Strong scripting skills, particularly in Korn shell.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively.
  • Familiarity with Windows desktop tools.
  • Bilingualism is required for candidates located in Quebec due to regular interactions with English-speaking colleagues.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada is necessary, though Canadian work experience is not mandatory.
