About the Role

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Regular part-time Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our dedicated Donor Centre team.

The Donor Centre team is responsible for facilitating the safe collection of donor blood, ensuring that safe products are available to save lives daily. In this role, you will assist in the collection of blood and blood products, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols and that all necessary documentation is completed. You will play a crucial role in fostering a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.

Formula for Success
  • Utilizing your effective communication skills with donors, you will conduct registration and confidential screening to assess eligibility and enhance the donor experience.
  • With your exceptional interpersonal skills, you will provide donors with essential information, guidance, and advice regarding blood donation.
  • Drawing on your expertise, you will offer coaching and support to donor centre staff, acting as a team lead for collection events as necessary.
  • In a diverse team environment, you will assist in the collection of whole blood and/or apheresis blood components that save lives every day.
  • At community mobile events, you will help set up booths, tables, and other equipment to ensure donor clinics are adequately prepared for use.
Desired Education and Skills
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program and a current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the province is required.
  • Two years of nursing experience is considered an asset, as is certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Previous experience as a preceptor or in coaching roles is advantageous.
  • Technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, along with the ability to learn new systems and programs.
  • Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset to enhance the donor experience.

What You Can Expect
  • Shifts/hours will vary. Flexibility is required to accommodate assigned shifts based on operational needs; shift lengths vary according to events at Canadian Blood Services fixed and mobile donor centers. Shifts may include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Travel will be necessary for mobile events. Transportation and accommodations will be provided by Canadian Blood Services.
  • Physical requirements for the role include the ability to lift weights up to 10 kg (22 lbs.).
