Position Overview

We are in search of a Principal Process Engineer to enhance our Process Development team, providing expert guidance in the design, development, and production of interventional cardiology medical devices. You will play a pivotal role in mentoring team members, strengthening technical capabilities through your extensive background in technology advancement, process innovation, and manufacturing design. As a principal engineer, you will independently spearhead research, analysis, optimization, and execution of intricate product and process-related initiatives. You will collaborate with various departments locally and globally to translate technical solutions into reality.

This role offers a hybrid work environment with occasional travel as necessary.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex projects that necessitate the creation of innovative processes and methodologies for both existing and new technologies.
  • Your work will contribute to the development of new or enhanced technologies, products, materials, processes, equipment, and scientific methods, potentially expanding BSC's Intellectual Property in strategic domains.
  • Act as a key resource or authority in areas such as technology development, product design, process design, materials testing, specifications preparation, and process reporting.
  • Initiate and execute technical activities aimed at developing new or improved products or processes to align with the company's strategic objectives. Prepare reports and deliver presentations to communicate findings effectively.
  • Analyze and resolve engineering challenges using principles, theories, and concepts to address a wide array of complex issues requiring innovative solutions or significant technological advancements.
  • Influence decisions regarding alternative engineering processes, products, or equipment.
  • Develop expertise in a specific field to become a recognized leader and apply this knowledge in leadership roles within the organization.
  • Integrate business policies and procedures into task execution while understanding the company's business needs and customer requirements.
  • Stay informed about the business cycle and emerging technology trends.
  • Build and maintain a network of internal and external resources to accomplish tasks. Assist in the selection and training of new engineers and staff.
  • Lead project teams, establishing goals and objectives for projects.
  • Mentor team members by sharing technical knowledge and providing constructive feedback.
  • Engage cross-functionally and with internal and external stakeholders, serving as a consultant for engineering or scientific interpretations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies through publications and conferences.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to early-career team members to enhance team capabilities.
  • Contribute to the Intellectual Property portfolio, including the development of invention disclosures and patent applications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • 9+ years of experience in engineering or related fields (or 7+ years with a Master's Degree).
  • Experience in training and mentoring engineers in problem-solving and process improvement methodologies.
  • Strong statistical expertise.
  • Knowledge and capability to instruct on Design of Experiments.
  • Experience in conducting multiple process characterizations across various technologies.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence a highly technical team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills across multiple organizational levels.
  • Experience collaborating with clinicians to gather insights and product feedback.
  • Familiarity with relevant medical device regulations and guidelines (e.g., ISO 13484, ISO 14971, IEC 60601).
  • Ability to thrive in an inclusive, collaborative, and fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, including on global teams.
  • Willingness to travel (~10%) domestically and internationally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the design of catheters, dilators, needles, and guidewires.
  • Knowledge of braiding and coiling techniques.
  • Familiarity with induction and RF heating systems.
  • Expertise in polymer and metal component design and manufacturing, including:
    • Part design
    • Injection molding
    • Reflow processes
    • Bonding and welding techniques
    • Heat treatments
    • Casting methods
  • Fixture and tooling design experience.
  • Design of automated work cells and equipment.
  • Mechanical mechanism design and analysis skills.
  • Electrical PCB and cable/harness design knowledge.
