About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Policy Officer. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing policies and programs that support the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission's (CNSC) mandate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement policies and programs related to Indigenous reconciliation and public participation in nuclear regulation.
  • Support consultations with Indigenous nations on complex nuclear projects and represent the CNSC in related interdepartmental policy development.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and networks with Indigenous communities, officials in other federal and provincial departments and agencies, and in the private sector.
  • Prepare briefing notes, presentation materials, correspondence, and written assessments of issues and reports from government and non-government sources.
  • Provide analysis and advice to CNSC senior management, the President, and the Minister and/or Minister's staff on various technical, regulatory, policy, and operational issues related to the CNSC's mandate.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree from a recognized university, preferably in the field of public administration, political science, economics, environmental planning, engineering, or applied science.
  • Language Requirements: English essential.
  • Experience in drafting briefing notes, meeting summaries, reports, procedures, or process documents.
  • Experience in building and maintaining effective relationships within and outside the organization.
  • Experience in supporting projects with multiple stakeholders, from inception to implementation.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of the updated guidelines for Federal Officials to Fulfill the Legal Duty to Consult and other key documents.
  • Knowledge of the legislation and regulations governing the activities of the CNSC and its regulatory practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Asset Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or higher relevant to the role.
  • Experience consulting with Indigenous Nations on major project initiatives that could impact rights.
  • Experience writing and/or working on Government of Canada policy initiatives relating to Indigenous issues.
  • Experience working under Treasury Board and financial policies in the administration of federal grants and contribution programs.
  • Experience using communications' principals, methods, and techniques including risk communication, to prepare and deliver effective presentations and briefings to targeted audiences.
