Recreation Aide Job Summary

Optima Living is seeking a Recreation Aide to join our team at The Hamlets at Duncan in Duncan, BC. As a Recreation Aide, you will play a vital role in delivering recreation activities that promote the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and cultural needs of our residents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage Residents: Build meaningful relationships with residents through regular conversation and activities.
  • Program Coordination: Assist the recreation team in planning and implementing recreation programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our residents.
  • One-on-One Support: Provide individualized support to residents, ensuring their needs are met and their dignity is respected.
  • Observation and Reporting: Monitor and report on resident care and services, identifying areas for improvement and suggesting solutions.
  • Volunteer and Community Coordination: Assist in coordinating volunteers and community resources to enhance the lives of our residents.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with peers to coordinate activities, share knowledge, and provide support.
  • Equipment Management: Maintain recreation equipment, including inventory and maintenance, to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for residents.
  • Event Setup and Cleanup: Assist in setting up and cleaning up after events and activities, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • Compliance: Operate in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, prioritizing the safety and well-being of residents and staff.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Experience: Preference given to candidates with experience in a residential care setting.
  • Education: High school diploma required.
  • Driver's License: Valid provincial class 4 driver's license is an asset.
  • Certifications: Completion of CPR and First Aid is an asset. Safe Food Handling Certificate is required.
  • Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills, superior organizational skills, and superior oral and written communication skills are essential.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Criminal Record Check: Clear drivers abstract, clear Police Information Check, and clear Vulnerable Sector Check required.
