Your Opportunity:
This is a remarkable and fulfilling opportunity to become a part of the Neurosciences team in a leadership role. The Unit Manager will oversee the Neuro ICU, the High Intensity Unit (HIU), and the Stroke Observation unit at Alberta Health Services. In this capacity, you will serve as a clinical leader, mentor, and advocate, ensuring that your team delivers high-quality, patient-centered care. The Neuro ICU is one of only two stand-alone Neurosciences ICUs in the country, catering to the Edmonton & North zones, as well as the Territories, for all cranial neurosurgery, neurovascular interventions, acute stroke management, and specialized spine care. This unit also plays a crucial role in the care of organ donation patients in the Edmonton zone.
As the Unit Manager, you will be tasked with leading change management initiatives and driving quality improvement efforts, while fostering team development and managing staffing and clinical services. Your responsibilities will include clinical supervision, recruitment, and budget oversight. Key aspects of this role involve building knowledge and capacity, influencing innovation, and instilling confidence for change. You will have the opportunity to support quality improvement initiatives and contribute to groundbreaking work through the development of exciting programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountable for the effective and efficient operation of the assigned unit or patient care area.
- Management of human, material, and financial resources to support optimal patient care.
- Monitoring and organizing workflow and delivery of patient care, including daily staffing schedules and patient assignments.
- Providing leadership to ensure quality patient care through effective communication with various stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess the physical capability to perform all aspects of the role, including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Basic computer skills are essential. Strong leadership and critical thinking abilities are required, demonstrated through the capacity to direct healthcare personnel, resolve issues, and escalate clinical concerns appropriately. Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with demonstrated organizational capabilities, are crucial. A commitment to patient and family-centered care and staff engagement is expected, as well as the ability to maintain collaborative relationships with patients, families, and team members. Proof of active registration with the College of Registered Nurses (CRNA) is required and must be maintained throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is preferred. Previous management or formal leadership experience is advantageous, along with a minimum of 1 to 2 years of Neuroscience experience and at least 2 years of Charge Nurse experience. Familiarity with change management practices is also preferred.
