Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Recreation Therapist
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a qualified Recreation Therapist to be part of the Long Term Care Team. This position involves working collaboratively within a supportive environment to enhance the quality of life for clients through tailored recreation therapy services.
Responsibilities of the Recreation Therapist include:
Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to deliver Recreation Therapy services in designated Long Term Care settings, focusing on specific client needs, while also engaging in quality improvement and risk management initiatives. Conducting comprehensive Recreation Therapy assessments and interventions, and providing guidance to students, staff, and volunteers.Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Leisure Studies from an accredited institution. A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience with the target population in the applicable program area, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency First Aid. Eligibility for certification and CTRS credential with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
In-depth understanding of evidence-based practices in Recreation Therapy relevant to health issues and treatment. Strong knowledge of therapeutic recreation theories, social psychology, and current trends in the field. Expertise in client-centered care models and the organization of therapeutic recreation services. Familiarity with interdisciplinary health care roles and their impact on client care. Proficient in research methodologies and processes. Proven ability to work effectively as a team member and leader. Capable of teaching and communicating effectively with clients and colleagues in various settings. Ability to work independently while collaborating with others to achieve common goals. Competence in establishing priorities and managing workloads effectively. Physical capability to perform the responsibilities of the role. Skillful in using relevant equipment and techniques for treating clients with rehabilitation needs. Basic proficiency in computer applications.Additional Information
