Job Summary

The Division of Interventional Cardiology at Surrey Memorial Hospital is seeking a dynamic and innovative leader to build, grow, and lead a team of interventional cardiologists. The successful candidate will join the largest Health Authority in the province and operate out of the site with the busiest emergency department in the country.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cardiology and experience in leading clinical programs. They will be responsible for developing annual operating objectives, functioning as a channel of communication, and leading strategic and operational planning. Additionally, they will be responsible for quality and utilization monitoring, divisional operations, SMH operations, academic affiliation, regional physician resource planning, dispute resolution, and medical legal issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop annual operating objectives for the Regional Division.
  • Function as a channel of communication to and from the regional division.
  • Lead strategic and operational planning for the assigned Division.
  • Develop standards of clinical practice for the division.
  • Establish a quality assurance/quality improvement structure and program.
  • Investigate complaints regarding care provided by medical staff.
  • Promote health and wellness amongst Members.
  • Encourage a healthy and respectful workplace.
  • Arrange and chair local and regional divisional meetings.
  • Convey advice, opinions, and duly passed motions of regional division members.
  • Provide clinical service in outpatient clinics and potentially on inpatient units.
  • Work with the University of British Columbia to ensure education programs and research activities are being sufficiently promoted and supported.
  • Review workforce requirements of the regional division.
  • Contribute to the selection of new staff members joining the Regional Department.
  • Mediate disputes involving division members.
  • Identify potential liability issues and provide advice for specific cases/files.
Requirements
  • At least 5 years of independent practice as an interventional cardiologist.
  • Eligibility for appointment to the clinical faculty of the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University once established.
  • A demonstrated record of work in a 'stand alone' site is preferred.
  • Experience and interest in developing and leading clinical programs is preferred.
