Job Title: Registered Nurse, Cardiac Services

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to provide direct patient care in a Level 3/4 Telemetry Unit at Langley Memorial Hospital in Langley, B.C.

Job Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Temporary Full Time Registered Nurse to join our team. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients in an acute medical unit.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and collect information from various sources to inform nursing care.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans that address the unique needs of each patient.
  • Collaborate with patients and their families/caregivers to develop and implement care plans that promote patient-centered care.
  • Provide direct patient care, including administering medications, performing procedures, and providing wound care.
  • Participate in the care and discharge planning process for patients on admission, ensuring that care plans are established and implemented effectively.
  • Coordinate nursing care for patients, setting priorities, assigning and delegating tasks to support staff, and making referrals to the interprofessional care team as needed.
  • Collaborate with members of the interprofessional care team, including physicians, licensed practical nurses, patient care coordinators, and other healthcare professionals/providers, to identify and resolve issues, adjust care plans as required, and address changes in patient condition.
  • Teach patients and families/caregivers about illness prevention, health restoration, and health maintenance to support patient self-care and discharge planning.
  • Assess learning needs of patients and families/caregivers, provide information and demonstration of care activities, and support self-care and discharge planning.
  • Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
  • Participate in nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned or agreed to with the Manager.
  • Participate in research and quality improvement activities by identifying patient care issues, collecting data, and identifying needs and recommendations for corrective action and changes to practices, procedures, or protocols.
  • Participate in and attend in-services and other educational programs, identifying own learning goals and maintaining and updating current clinical competence and knowledge within area of practice.
  • Act as a preceptor or mentor to assigned new nursing staff and students, sharing information, demonstrating care activities, and participating in orientation.
  • Provide feedback to the Manager/delegate regarding the effectiveness of patient care programs, policy/clinical decision support tools, and equipment.
Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Completion of Cardiology component of Post Basic Critical Care course, or post basic High Acuity Course, approved Arrhythmia interpretation course plus one (1) year's recent experience in cardiac monitoring or telemetry unit, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current Basic Rescuer Certificate.
  • Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area.
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional care team using verbal, written, and electronic communication means.
  • Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/caregivers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and patient advocacy.
  • Ability to integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem-solve effectively.
  • Ability to teach and instruct patients and families/caregivers about topics essential to their health care and well-being.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Ability to use factual information, prior learning, and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence/evidence-informed practice.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including relevant computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
