Position Title: Student Support Specialist

  • Engage in the coordination and promotion of initiatives focused on socio-emotional learning, mental health awareness, and overall well-being for all students within the educational environment;
  • Assist in the execution and advocacy of programs aimed at developing socio-emotional skills and preventing high-risk behaviors in the classroom;
  • Work collaboratively with the educational team to assess specific socio-emotional requirements within the school community;
  • Partner with the educational team to create tailored learning plans for identified students;
  • Provide individual or small group counseling to deliver socio-emotional support customized to the needs of students;
  • Intervene directly with students experiencing behavioral and/or mental health challenges;
  • Support the educational team in managing student crises effectively;
  • Facilitate communication with central office specialists, external professionals, and parents to ensure comprehensive student follow-ups;
  • Complete all necessary documentation and processes required for student designation or diagnosis.

Required Qualifications

  • Possess a master's degree in school counseling or a related field emphasizing supportive relationships;
  • Hold a teaching certification from the Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB) or be eligible for certification;
  • Demonstrate expertise in interventions for students and families with significant socio-emotional development needs;
  • Fluent in both French and English, with strong oral and written communication skills.

The salary for this role is determined based on the criteria outlined in the teachers' collective agreement.
