Job Summary

The Health Sciences Centre is seeking a skilled and compassionate Healthcare Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide essential support to patients and staff, ensuring a high level of care and comfort in our facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming, under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals.
  • Provide basic supportive care, including feeding, toileting, and transferring patients, as directed.
  • Participate in patient care planning and implementation, working collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff, providing emotional support and reassurance as needed.
Requirements
  • Previous patient care experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Health Care Aide course is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and transport patients and equipment, as required.
  • Physical stamina to perform duties, including standing, walking, and bending, for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Competency in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and values is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to patient-centered care.
