About the Opportunity

Brock University Library invites applications for the position of Associate University Librarian, Research. As a member of a collaborative senior library leadership team, the successful candidate will work closely with the University Librarian, other colleagues in the Library, and the wider university community to provide creative leadership in the development and implementation of the Library's strategic priorities and objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership in the development of innovative new services, programs, and initiatives.
  • Supervise, support, and collaborate with department heads, human resources, and budgets.
  • Provide sponsorship and leadership of key projects and initiatives.
Qualifications
  • A Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library program or equivalent.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience as a professional librarian or archivist demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Formal leadership and management experience within a library or archives environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, empower, and motivate people, and foster teamwork.
  • Experience in leading and championing innovation in one or more of the areas in this portfolio (collections, archives, and special collections, and the research lifecycle).
  • Knowledge of library consortia (Canadian Research Knowledge Network, Ontario Council of University Libraries) and their role in licensing and managing access to resources.
  • Knowledge of collection development theory and practice.
  • Demonstrated success in managing within a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of strategic trends and operational issues impacting library services, collections, technologies, and spaces.
  • Highly collaborative and collegial, with the ability to participate in shared decision-making.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to advocate and promote library value.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated success using innovation and flexibility to address challenges.
  • Record of scholarship and/or professional development in the library and information science community.
  • Understanding of inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation, and decolonization, and a demonstrated commitment to advance a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote a positive and safe organizational culture.
Assets
  • Master's degree in a related discipline.
  • Experience in an academic library or archives environment.
  • Experience with planning and preparing a budget in a library context.
  • Active participation in consortial networks.
  • Knowledge of collection acquisitions business practices.
  • Knowledge of assessment and evaluation concepts.
Term of Appointment

This senior academic administrative position is excluded from all bargaining units. Appointment will be for a 5-year term, renewable, with an underlying librarian appointment.
